Callan Jansen is a multi-media visual artist currently studying under Mark Kang-O’Higgins in the Contemporary Drawing and Painting Atelier at the Gage Academy of Art in Seattle, WA, where they were born and raised.
Callan’s work meanders the line between reality and abstraction, frequently employing bright (sometimes discordant) colors to depict the human figure and elements of nature; at times utilizing overlapping layers of imagery to bring forward themes of interconnectedness, and finding in the chaos a rhythm between order and entropy. They draw inspiration from their life, experiences and relationships, the world around them, and regular engagement in surrealist practices such as automatic drawing and exquisite corpse.
